Hilary Hahn to premiere three of the "Six Partitas" by composer Antón García Abril in Washington.
There's no violinist quite like Hilary Hahn. Among her peers, both violinists and otherwise, she is widely known as one of the most intense, focused artists of her generation.
But she is also one of the most adventurous, as proven by her multi-year, grammy-winning commissioning project "In 27 Pieces: the Hilary Hahn Encores". Over the course of two seasons, she will premiere a set of new works, named "Six Partitas", by Spanish composer Antón García Abril, inspired by his participation in the encores project and commissioned by Hilary Hahn and the Washington Performing Arts; three of the "Six Partitas" will be premiered in Washington on April 19 of 2016 at the Music Center of Strathmore, the other three will be premiered by Hilary Hahn on 2017.
Says Hahn, "In Bach's and Ysaÿe's writing, there is legendary and established precedent for a st of six works for solo violin, [yet it] has not been picked up by contemporary composers to the extent that would benefit the solo violin repertoire. I strongly encouraged Antón to write a set of six works for solo violin, to add his unique voice to this rich but still growing tradition."
Hilary Hahn's appearances this season and three commissioned works by Antón García Abril are made possible through the generous support of Dr. Gary Mather and Ms. Christina Co Mather. This project is supported in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts.
