Daniel Müller-Schott has recorded Dvorák "The Cello Works" with the NDR Sinfonieorchester under Michael Sanderling for the ORFEO label, release on April 23, 2014.
The Cello concerto in B minor Op. 104, Antonín Dvorák's masterpiece, was created during his time as musical director at the New York Conservatory, is a "symbiosis of naturalness, deeply felt longing in music and an almost perfect form of composition", [...] "There are just a few concerts whose history of origin displays such poignant links with the private life of the composer as the Cello concerto by antonín Dvorák". [...] "Dvorák gave the cello a new status as solo instrument", says Daniel Müller-Schott".
Daniel Müller-Scott was particularly interested in recording Dvorák's major symphonic work for cello and orchestra, including the Rondo in G minor and his "Silent Words" -a work from the piano duet cycle "From the Bohemian Forest"- along with some less familiar chamber music works, the CD includes three chamber music pieces for dello and piano, the Romantic Pieces Op. 75 No 1-4, the "Songs My Mother Taught Me" from the gypsy melodies Op. 55 No. 4, both reworked by Daniel Müller-Schott for the cello, and the Slavonic Dance Op. 46/3.
With the new CD recording Dvorák "The Cello Works", Daniel Müller-Schott has added another composer to his extensive discography, following Prokofiev, Britten and Shostakovich.
